Hon Paul Henderson MLA, Minister for Asian Relations and Trade Asian Relations and Trade Minister has congratulated the Northern Territory business delegation at the Sabah International Expo, saying each delegate is going home with their own business success story.

“All of the delegates have worked extremely hard during the week-long Expo and it’s paid off, with each business delegate having a successful week of sales and networking,” Mr Henderson said.

“For some of the businesses here in Sabah success has meant selling their products and services this week, and for others it has been about developing new networks and contacts that will pay off in the future.

“The Territory Government has been pleased to champion these small businesses, with all of the business delegates travelling to Sabah with financial grants from the Government’s Trade Support Scheme.”

Amongst the success stories this week:

  • Mr Sean Mahoney of International College of Advanced Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding to have their online business and hospitality training packages used by the students of Malaysian private college Alma Crest Training Academy ;
  • Mr Tom Dinning and Mrs Christine Dinning of Elegant Boxes sold all of their handmade boxes at the Expo and received interest in stocking the boxes in a chain of hotel lobby shops across Malaysia ;
  • Mrs Leonie McNally of Territory Craft generated substantial interest in her products, including an invitation to exhibit at a Singapore jewellery fair;
  • Mr Jim Lombard of H20 Solution’s developed important new business relationships during the week for the use of his waste water treatment product in the quickly-growing regions of Malaysian.

“Significantly, the Northern Territory was singled out at the Chief Minster of Sabah’s Expo closing dinner in recognition of the strength of our relationship with Sabah – and that is a strong sign for doing business here in the future,” said Mr Henderson.

“This morning a smaller business delegation heads to Bintulu in Sarawak , one of Malaysia ’s important trading hubs and home to the country’s second LNG Plant.

“Mr Graeme Lacey of AustralAsian Group of Companies signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Bintulu Port Corporation earlier this year, and I look forward to working with Graeme to identify opportunities for hubbing links between Darwin and Bintulu.”
