The $7.5 million Fannie Bay Seniors Village was opened today, on time and on budget Housing Minister John Ah Kit said today.

“But the great thing is that this fantastic new community asset is such a home-grown one.

“Led by John and Tony Tomazos, main contractor Gratis Pty Ltd has assembled a total of 20 local sub-contractors and suppliers—from every imaginable trade skill—to complete the project on time and on budget,” said Mr Ah Kit.

“It’s been a terrific achievement, and the final result is a credit to the companies involved and the people who work for them.

“It’s great to see local businesses getting the work, especially on a development which will benefit senior Territorians who really want to stay up here in the Top End, close to their friends and family, living the kind of life style they want.

“It is really well designed, well built and beautifully landscaped.”

The Fannie Bay Seniors Village involved the demolition of Blocks 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 and the caretaker’s residence, the removal of trees and the realignment of major services—work which was completed in May. The design and documentation was completed by Jackman Gooden Architects in March.

Gratis Pty Ltd commenced work in May on the $6.5 million construction work and, despite unseasonal rains, completed the work on time. $1 million was spent on demolition and head works to the site.

The Fannie Bay Seniors Village will provide 40x2 bedroom ground level units and a small meeting room. Blocks 4, 6 and 8 of Kurringal will continue to provide general purpose housing for a period of eight to ten years.
