A new security compound at Buffalo Creek boat ramp is proving extremely popular with Top End anglers.

Under the Government’s 3-year $1.5 million funding to improve recreational fishing infrastructure, we extended power from Lee Point Road , and installed extensive security and lighting at Buffalo Creek boat ramp.

Fisheries Minister, Kon Vatskalis, said with power and water now available, a full-time caretaker has moved onto the site, offering anglers a safe and secure location to leave vehicles and trailers.

“This is a fantastic facility supporting one of the key components of our great lifestyle - fishing,” said Mr Vatskalis.

“Until recently, Buffalo Creek was a prime target of vandals and thieves who would take advantage of the dark, isolation site.

“I’m pleased to announce local couple, Ray and Anna Medlicotti, have now taken up their position as full-time caretakers, and have been overwhelmed with the response from angler so far.

“For just $5, fishermen can leave their vehicles and trailers safely in the compound. Ray and Anna are also recording details of anglers’ destination and estimated time of return, as well as offering some invaluable advice on where fish are biting.”

Mr Vatskalis said around 6,000 vehicles are recorded at Buffalo Creek every month, of which about 1500 are towing a boat.
