Despite an 11.4% drop in job advertisements in the month of November, the Territory has still recorded a 32% increase in job ads throughout the year, Treasurer Syd Stirling said today. Mr Stirling said the latest data from the ANZ’s job advertisement series showed Territory job advertising remaining at close to its highest level since the ANZ began producing its series for the NT in 1996. “It is not unusual to see a drop-off in job ads during Wet Season months. In fact, every Australian jurisdiction except New South Wales recorded a fall in November,” Mr Stirling said. “But looking at the figures during the year to November, the Territory’s labour market is the strongest it has been in many years. “While we can expect a seasonal fall in tourism and hospitality jobs over the Wet, it is not as pronounced as it has been in other years. “Continuing strong activity in the building and real estate sectors, coupled with major projects underway or coming on line in the Territory are also sustaining the demand for labour. “The figures reflect the continuing difficulties being faced by Territory businesses in terms of finding skilled labour. “This is something the Territory Government will continue to address in conjunction with local business through the ongoing implementation of the Jobs Plan and efforts to attract more skilled workers to the Territory.”
