Territorians will see the cream of Australian basketball talent with tickets going on sale this Monday for the Perth Wildcats-Sydney Kings National Basketball League (NBL) match.
Chief Minister, Clare Martin, was today presented with the number one ticket by the team’s chief executive, Andrew Vlahov, during the Darwin Basketball Association’s Grand Final day at Marrara Indoor Stadium.
“This NBL game is evidence of Government’s commitment to attracting high class sporting events to the Territory - it’s an important addition to our great Territory lifestyle,” she said.
“The January 23 match between Darwin ’s adopted home team the Wildcats and reigning NBL champions the Kings will be a highlight on the Territory’s 2005 sporting calendar.
“This will be one of the best sporting events you would want to see - the reigning NBL champions up against our adopted home team.
“Territorians can purchase tickets for the big game next week and I am delighted to be presented with the number one ticket for this match.
“This will be the second Darwin ‘home’ game for the Wildcats, following their win against Brisbane Bullets, and is part of a three-year deal with Government.”
Wildcats’ chief executive, Andrew Vlahov, said the 2000 NBL champions were eagerly awaiting their trip to the Territory.
“Last year's encounter was played in such a fun environment, it almost feels like Darwin is close to becoming a second home for the 'Cats,” he said.
“Playing in Darwin is of special significance to the Wildcats and up against the Sydney Kings I'm sure it will be a fierce battle out there.
“Perth Wildcats are very proud to work in association with Skycity Casino , NT Government and Basketball Northern Territory in bringing the NBL Philips Championship to Darwin .
“I'd also like to thank the local corporate community who have embraced this game and really welcomed the Perth Wildcats.”
The Wildcats will conduct clinics in Darwin , Alice Springs , Santa Teresa and Maningrida. Tickets to the NBL Philips Championship can be purchased from Skycity Casino.
