Territorians will reap the rewards of the Government’s 3-year $1.5 million commitment to recreational fishing infrastructure this festive season.

Fisheries Minister, Kon Vatskalis, said he will be among the thousands who will be using one of the 30 Government owned boat ramps around the Territory over the holidays.

“Now is the time we all spend with our family and friends and enjoy all the Territory has to offer, including our fantastic fishing – it’s an important part of our unique lifestyle,” he said.

“In the last three years, this Government has shown its support for recreational fishing, spending $1.5 million improving infrastructure for anglers.

“Extensive works have now been completed at two of the Top End’s most popular launches. Buffalo Creek boat ramp now has power and lighting and a 24-hour security compound. Dinah Beach boat ramp has been expanded to a two-lane facility with extra car parking.

“These works were carried out following extensive consultation with various stakeholders and have been welcomed by anglers.”

Mr Vatskalis said the remaining funds from the $1.5 million allocation will go towards upgrading the existing ramps at Mule and Rocky Creeks, near Borroloola.

Consultation continues with Palmerston City Council, which is now developing a master plan to determine future works at Palmerston boat ramp.

“Together, we are keeping the Territory moving ahead, and providing improved opportunities for all fishermen and boat enthusiasts.”
