New Year’s Eve party-goers in Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area can leave their cars at home and take advantage of the Territory Government’s free Starlight Special bus service, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Dr Chris Burns said today. Launching the service, Dr Burns said the Starlight Special is part of the Government’s strategy to help keep Territory roads safe over the festive season. “We want to ensure that members of the public can travel safely to and from events around town,” Dr Burns said. “There will also be security guards in place throughout the night at the Darwin, Palmerston and Casuarina bus interchanges. “About 3700 people used the Starlight Special last year, and I expect this year’s service to be just as popular.” The free buses will run from 7pm on New Year’s Eve to 7am on New Year’s Day. Return services will run from:
There will also be two loop services in Casuarina, as well as one in the northern suburbs, and one between the CBD and Cullen Bay. A rural service will depart Humpty Doo at 7.30pm and 9.30pm for Palmerston. The return service departs Palmerston at 2.30am and 5am.
