New $350 000 Alice Springs Shooting Range Officially Opened

Sporting shooters in Alice Springs now have access to a brand new facility with the

official opening of the $350 000 shooting range.

Minster for Sport and Recreation, Kon Vatskalis, said the new facility continued the

Martin Governments strong record of enhancing sporting facilities in Central Australia.

“I am proud to see this facility, which is bigger and better than the old range, now

complete,” Minister Vatskalis said.

“Due to loss of the old range due to residential encroachment, the Sporting Shooters

Association of Australia lost the ability to shoot certain disciplines.

“This will enable sporting shooters to resume the full range of sporting activities and has

already provided the necessary facilities at the recent Alice Springs Masters Games.

“This new facility will continue to enhance shooting competition in Alice Springs.

“The Martin Labor Governments record on investment in sport and recreation

infrastructure in Alice Springs is second to none.

“This new $350 000 shooting facility comes on top of the $8.1m already given to the

Alice Springs Town Council for the construction an Aquatic Centre, the recently

completed $5.5m upgrade to Traeger Park, the $800 000 for the construction of the new

Alice Springs Drag Racing Strip and $500 000 for the upgrade of Ross Park for junior

soccer, including lights.

“These investments not only results in first class sporting facilities, they also provide jobs

for locals and work for local business.

“If you love your sport and the Territory’s great outdoor lifestyle then Alice Springs is

the place to be,” Minister Vatskalis said.
