Perth Wildcats On The Prowl In Darwin

The Perth Wildcats today announced Sport and Recreation Minister Kon Vatskalis as the No.1 ticket holder in Darwin for the Wildcats National Basketball League game to be held in Darwin next February.

Mr Vatskalis urged all Territorians to get out and support the Wildcats when they play the Cairns Taipans at Marrara Indoor Stadium on 4 February 2007.

“World class sporting events are an essential part of the great Territory lifestyle,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“The Martin Government is delighted that Territory basketball fans will see live NBL action over the next three years.

“The Territory Government is proud to support the Wildcats and I am sure that Territorians will continue to provide the team an all important home game edge,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“This year the Wildcats game was sold out, so Territorians need to get in quick to secure their tickets.

“The three year agreement also includes coaching clinics and regional and remote visits to communities, including Alice Springs and will see the Wildcats use Darwin as a home venue till 2009.

“As part of the Agreement, the Northern Territory Government will spend $25 000 upgrading the sound system at Marrara Indoor Stadium to NBL standards.

Wildcats Managing Director, Andrew Vlahov said the team was excited to be travelling back to the Territory again.

“The experiences our club have had in the Territory have been fantastic to date and I know the players can’t wait to put on a show for all our Top End supporters,” Mr Vlahov said.

“We are encouraging our fans to turn up in the Wildcats’ new colours and are looking forward to a sea of red lifting the roof off Marrara Indoor Stadium.

"The Wildcats enjoy contesting the SKYCITY Challenge each year; it is one of the highlights of the Philips Championship,” Mr Vlahov said.

Tickets for the Wildcats and Taipans clash will be on sale before Christmas from SKYCITY.
