The implications of the Territory becoming a State will be the topic for discussion in a meeting with the Federal Government tomorrow.
Minister for Statehood, Syd Stirling, and Shadow Minister for Statehood, Terry Mills, will jointly meet with Attorney-General, Phillip Ruddock, and Minister for Territories, Jim Lloyd, at Parliament House in
“This meeting is designed to place the issue of Statehood back onto the Federal Government’s agenda,” said Minister Stirling.
“Mr Mills and I are travelling together to demonstrate the bi-partisan nature of the renewed Statehood effort.
“We want to achieve the best possible Statehood model for Territorians and the Federal Government plays an important part in that. We want to make sure they are up to date on developments here and how the issues will evolve,” Mr Stirling said.
Shadow Minister for Statehood, Terry Mills, said bi-partisan support was paramount in achieving Statehood.
“We have learnt from history that this process will only be successful if we have both sides of politics working together – and I am proud to say that’s exactly what we have achieved this time around,” said Mr Mills.
“Territorians deserve the best possible version of Statehood and that’s exactly what we are attempting to achieve through meeting with the Federal Government.”
The Minister, Syd Stirling, and Shadow Minister, Terry Mills, will report back to the Statehood Steering Committee after the meeting.
