AFL Action Returns To Traeger Park

The West Coast Eagles and the Adelaide Crows will clash at Alice Springs Traeger Park on Friday night in the repeat of last years Preliminary Final.

In Alice Springs today, Territory Sports Minister, Kon Vatskalis, inspected the ground before the big game.

Alice is a great place to live and the Martin Government is thrilled to see top class AFL action in Central Australia for the fourth year in a row,” said Mr Vatskalis.

“We love our footy here in the Territory and under the Martin Government major events are now an important part of our great lifestyle.

“Personally, I can’t wait to see last years Grand Finalists – and my team – the Eagles, playing on Territory turf.

“The Eagles and Crows are notorious for their close games in recent years.

“I am sure the Crows will also want to get a measure of revenge for missing out on a spot in last years AFL Grand Final.

“I am tipping there will feathers flying all over Traeger Park on Friday night in the Battle of the Birds.

Mr Vatskalis said this is the first year of another 3-year deal the Martin Government struck with the AFL to bring great footy to the Territory.

“Last month, we had 13,000 pack out TIO Stadium in Darwin, witnessing Essendon knock off the Indigenous All Stars.

“Last week, we saw some fantastic but soggy footy action in Darwin with Geelong just getting up against Port Adelaide.

“And in June, the Western Bulldogs - or as we prefer to call them, the Darwin Doggies - will square off against the Fremantle Dockers for the four points.

“There is so much AFL action in the Territory it’s almost like living in Melbourne – except the weather is better!
