Territory Government Keeps On Truckin’

The Territory Government today announced a further $650,000 investment in motor racing infrastructure at Hidden Valley.

Minister for Sport Kon Vatskalis, while attending Powercruise #9 at Hidden Valley, said that the investment puts Darwin on radar for attracting even more quality racing events to the Territory.

“The Territory Government continues its significant investment in making the Territory’s lifestyle even greater,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“Territorians LOVE motor racing, it’s huge up here and there are so many different types: drags, karts, mud racing plus you have the V8’s which are a tremendous success.

“Hidden Valley, thanks to the Territory Government’s investment of $3.9 million since 2004, has become a Mecca for petrol heads.

“We responsibly invested in Hidden Valley’s infrastructure to address years of neglect by the previous CLP government.

“This investment has paid off in truckloads – literally, we have the Bandag Bullet, the fastest truck in the world, wowing Territorians today.

“The Martin Labor Government understands the importance of motor sports in the Territory and Hidden Valley is now in a condition good enough to grow the sport locally and deliver more national and international events.”

The breakdown of the money is as follows:

$500,000 to be spent on demolishing and replacing Maggies Bar as well as a new VIP lounge at the Speedway – part of Budget 2007/08

$150,000 for new safety barriers, work to commence at the completion of Powercruise #9

“Under the Martin Government the Territory has the best economy and lifestyle in Australia, and our ongoing investment in sports and sporting infrastructure makes it even better," Mr Vatskalis said.
