Moving Alice Ahead

Chief Minister Clare Martin today launched a major new project to guide the development of Alice Springs into the future.

Ms Martin said Moving Alice Ahead identified eleven key projects that would help build a safe, strong, secure future for the town.

“Moving Alice Ahead will make Alice Springs an even better place to live, work and raise a family, while protecting the town’s unique lifestyle,” Ms Martin said.

“It builds on the successes of the Alice in Ten project and gives government and the community a strong framework for focussing on key economic and social issues that are affecting Alice Springs now and into the future.

“Moving Alice Ahead represents a firm commitment from my Government to meeting the challenges facing the region and taking action to develop local approaches and local solutions.”

The eleven projects under the Moving Alice Ahead banner are:

·           Lifestyle;

·           Red Centre Way;

·           Standardising Town Camps;

·           Alice Springs International Charter Airport Status;

·           Responsible Alcohol Management Framework;

·           Regional Service Centre;

·           Workforce Development;

·           Desert Knowledge;

·           Growing the Indigenous Arts and Cultural Industry;

·           Tanami Road Upgrade; and

·           Residential and Industrial Land Availability.

“These projects have been identified as priorities by the community and government but this is not an exhaustive list and don’t exclude other major issues being dealt with by government,? Ms Martin said.

“Some of the projects build on work that has been ongoing while others have been recently identified as priorities.

“The Moving Alice Ahead projects will make a difference economically and socially in Alice Springs and will help build a town we are proud to live in.”
