Elliot McAdam MINISTER FOR HOUSING |
Today the Housing Minister Elliot McAdam announced that the Stuart Lodge has been completed and would open soon.
Mr McAdam said Stuart Lodge will help address the need for more short term accommodation in
“The Northern Territory Government has spent over $2 million renovating the Stuart Lodge.
“This 33 room facility will create at least 54 more beds for people visiting
“Stuart Lodge will provide practical low cost short term accommodation suitable for individuals and people travelling with family.
“It will be a secure facility that will be managed by the Territory Housing for up to one year.
“Territory Housing worked with the Alice Springs Accommodation Action Group, which came up with the idea to redevelop Stuart Lodge.
“This is a great example of government and the community working together to find practical solutions to address important issues.
“The Territory Government contributed the funding and staff for this major initiative as part of their commitment to address issues visitors face and alleviate overcrowding in town camps.
“Overcrowding is a major factor in health and anti-social behaviour so it’s vital we tackle the issue.
“Last year the NT Government also funded the Ayiparinya Lodge with $1.2 million to create more managed short term accommodation.
“I thank all of the parties that have been involved with the Stuart Lodge project, which will be a great benefit to the Central Australian community,” said Mr McAdam.
Furnishings and administrative matters are being finalised for Stuart Lodge and the first clients are expected in the near future.
