Darwin Football Stadium in ‘A-League’ of its own

The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kon Vatskalis, today announced ticket details for the first ever A-league game in the Northern Territory.

Mr Vatskalis said an A-League game is the ideal way to officially open the Darwin Football Stadium.

“The Martin Government has not only delivered on its election promise to construct the $8 million Darwin Football Stadium, we have gone one better and brought two of the best football teams in Australia to the Territory,” said Mr Vatskalis.

“Saturday 28 July will be huge for local football fans and a pre-season home game for Perth Glory as they take on defending A-league champions Melbourne Victory.

“The Northern Territory Government brings the best sport in Australia to the Territory - AFL, NRL, NBL, Cricket, Netball and now A-league football.

“It will be a great day, bring the family down and enjoy the curtain raiser between Borroloola and Darwin Under 18s and maybe even see the next Kewell.

“It is fitting to officially open the stadium by hosting the A-league game there.  If the public response is positive we will certainly consider hosting future major football games at our fantastic multi purpose TIO Stadium, like we do for international cricket and AFL fixtures.”

Gates open at 3:00pm.  Curtain raiser Borroloola v Darwin Under 18s starts at 3:30pm followed by the main game Perth Glory v Melbourne Victory at 6:30pm.

Tickets are limited and people are encouraged to get in early to avoid disappointment.  Grandstand seats are limited to 1120 tickets with 3580 general admission tickets available.
