The Martin Government has handed NT Cricket a $30,000 grant to upgrade the turf net training facility at TIO Stadium.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kon Vatskalis, said the funding will help establish a quality training facility for local and visiting teams.
"Local sport plays an important part in our great lifestyle. We’re not only supporting Territory sport but also attracting interstate and international teams to play here by providing better facilities," said Mr Vatskalis.
"This $30,000 grant will specifically go towards the purchase of netting and essential maintenance equipment and materials for the training nets at Marrara."
Cricket NT Chief Executive, Andrew Ramsay, said the new equipment will be purchased immediately.
"Local cricket is very appreciative of this funding which will allow us to create quality turf training wickets for our members," said Mr Ramsay.
"We will commence work on the wickets immediately with a view to having them ready and in top condition for the start of the 2007/08 cricket season in April 2008."
