A new Palmerston suburb - Bellamack - will be home to more than two and half thousand Territorians.
The Chief Minister Clare Martin, together with Lands and Planning Minister Delia Lawrie, today announced the release of up to 700 new lots of land in Palmerston.
“Palmerston is a great place for Territory families to live,” Ms Martin said.
“We’re expanding the city, planning for the future and developing the area for more people to embrace and enjoy the Territory lifestyle in Palmerston.”
Minister Lawrie said Bellamack will boast parks and open space, a shopping village, a community hub and the latest technological advancements.
“Most importantly it will be an affordable suburb with 15 percent of the land set aside for first homebuyers and public housing,” said Ms Lawrie.
“
“John Howard’s nine interest rate rises are making it tough for Territory families paying a mortgage, so it’s important land is released strategically to avoid flooding the market, resulting in plummeting property prices.
“Bellamack achieves the balance of providing more affordable housing for those who need it and protecting the price of homes people already own,” said Ms Lawrie.
At forums held in Palmerston by local members, Minister Chris Natt and James Burke, families indicated more affordable housing in the area is a necessity, and the Bellamack development will meet this need.
Expressions of interest from developers will close in a month.
