A mining expo held in
Regional Development Minister, Kon Vatskalis, said the Mining Expo and Supply Seminar held in March has resulted in around 51 new contracts being secured. Four new jobs - one an apprenticeship – have also been created as a result of the new business generated, and more than $2 million in sales were linked to the expo.
“The Territory Government is supporting local business and this expo delivered real benefits to the local economy,” said Mr Vatskalis.
“The Mining Expo and Supply Seminar gives local businesses the opportunity to show their wares to the mining and exploration industry - an area with huge potential for growth in the Territory.
“The Government believes it makes perfect sense that local businesses be the preferred suppliers to industries that are operating in our own back yard.
“These are terrific results and demonstrate the benefits of this event, where local suppliers can make direct contact with buyers in the mining industry.”
The Mining Expo and Supply Seminar is held as part of the Regional Services Centre project under Moving Alice Ahead.
Hosted by DBERD, in conjunction with the Annual Geoscience Exploration Seminar, the Expo aims to give local suppliers the opportunity to increase sales and learn more about exploration and mining activity in the Centre.
