The Territory’s adopted National Basketball team, the Perth Wildcats, return to Darwin early next year for their Round 21 clash against the West Sydney Razorbacks.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kon Vatskalis, said the Government looked forward to welcoming the Wildcats back to Darwin for another year.
“National Basketball has become an important part of our great lifestyle over the last four years and an important event on the annual sporting calendar,” said Mr Vatskalis.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Perth Wildcats back to Darwin for a fifth year. They will play their Round 21 game against the West Sydney Razorbacks at Marrara on Wednesday 6 February 2008.
“The Territory Government signed a new three year deal with the Wildcats earlier this year worth more than $200,000. I’m delighted Territory fans have really thrown their support behind the team.”
Perth Wildcats Managing Director, Andrew Vlahov, this morning joined students at Stuart Park Primary to shoot a few hoops and promote upcoming ticket sales.
"The Wildcats enjoy fantastic support from Territorians. We love coming up here, the people are friendly and the kids really appreciate us being here,” he said.
“It is always a great night and I urge people to get their tickets well and truly before Christmas. The last 4 years have all sold out."
During their Top End stay, the Perth Wildcats will also visit the Tiwi Islands, Royal Darwin Hospital and a local school.
Tickets are going on sale from 1 Dec 2007 at the Action Station at Sky City Casino.
