Free buses for AFL game

Territorians heading to tomorrow night’s NAB Cup opening match between the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne are being encouraged to take advantage of free buses that will be running to TIO Stadium.

The Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne Kangaroos will go head to head at TIO Stadium tomorrow night.

“The opening round of the NAB Cup is always a big one, and it is fantastic to yet again see the Western Bulldogs – or the ‘Darwin Doggies’ – back in the Top End,” Mr Bonson said.

“As Territorians we love our footy, but we also need to be responsible and make sure we stay safe. This is why I am encouraging people who are attending the match to take advantage of the Government’s free bus service that will be operating tomorrow evening.”

Darwin Bus Service will run free buses for those wanting to attend the game at half hourly intervals from 5pm to 7pm from the Casuarina, Darwin and Palmerston Interchanges, picking up at all bus stops along each route.

Buses will depart at the end of the match from 9.40pm.

“This is a great initiative – last year alone 1500 passengers used the free bus service,” Mr Bonson said.

Mr Bonson said the NT Government is dedicated to developing sport in the Territory and is proud to be part of this match and ongoing AFL fixtures in the Territory.

“This is the second year of a $1.2 million deal struck over three years by the NT Government. A deal that will guarantee Territorians continue to witness top class footy first hand during 2008 and again in 2009.

“And as part of the deal, a NAB Challenge match will be played in Alice Springs next month.

“Footy is an important part of our great lifestyle and these games continue to attract capacity crowds. It’s great entertainment for families and of course even better entertainment for footy fans.”
