Len Kiely MINISTER FOR NATURAL RESOURCES, ENVIRONMENT AND HERITAGE |
The Northern Territory Government’s $560,000 EnvironmeNT Grants program is set to get even better with the inclusion of a wildlife category, Environment Minister Len Kiely said today.
“Since the EnvironmeNT Grants program began in 2004, the Northern Territory Government has provided almost $2 million to fund a diverse range of projects,” Mr Kiely said.
“This is the fifth year in which EnvironmeNT Grants have been made available to Territorians and this year we are increasing funding by $100,000 on last year.
“We are also delighted to be introducing a wildlife category.
“The wildlife-specific component of the EnvironmeNT Grants will focus on applied outcomes to improve our knowledge about wildlife in the Territory.
“The new category will assist organisations and Government to better manage native and pest species.
“Some of the key areas to be focused on include threatened species protection or management programs and community programs that will improve rehabilitation of natural areas.”
Mr Kiely said other categories included in the EnvironmeNT Grants program are energy efficiency, water conservation and sustainable technology, recycling and resource efficiency.
“The focus of the EnvironmeNT Grants program is the emerging environmental issues of concern that relate to the built environment and the impacts of human activity,” Mr Kiely said.
“The EnvironmeNT Grants are available annually to community groups, councils, organisations, industry bodies and associations.”
