Alice Springs Planning For The Future Forum

The future planning of Alice Springs will be the topic of an upcoming forum that was launched by Planning Minister Delia Lawrie today.

 

Ms Lawrie said this is a great opportunity for residents to be involved in the planning of their town.

 

“There is a great deal of change happening in Alice Springs and it’s vital we make the most of every opportunity to move Alice ahead,” she said.

 

“A public forum will be held on 5 June to look at future planning options for Alice Springs.

 

Alice Springs residents have an exciting opportunity to review their future planning to make sure it is heading in the right direction.

 

“Members of the public will be welcome to attend and planning stakeholders will be invited to the forum.

 

“Topics that will be covered include growth options, looking at more ways to revitalise the CBD and sustainable development.”

 

Guest speakers invited to the forum include:

 

Damian Ryan –Alice Springs Town Council

Darryl Pearce – Lhere Artepe

Ray Smith – Department of Planning and Infrastructure

Paul Carter – University of Melbourne

Rob AdamsDarwin Chair of Urban Design Advisory Panel

Brian Elmer and Sam Latz – Solar Cities Project

 

An Advisory Committee looking at Alice Springs planning has been established and has begun meeting.  Its membership consists of Northern Territory Government agencies, the Alice Springs Town Council, Lhere Artepe and Desert Knowledge.

 

“I encourage all interested people to attend this important forum to have their say on the future planning issues for Alice Springs,” said Ms Lawrie.
