Discovery Walkway Launched

A major Northern Territory Government election commitment was officially opened today in Alice Springs.

The Alice Springs Discovery Walkway, connecting the Railway Station to the CBD, was launched by the Minister for Tourism, Kon Vatskalis, in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer of Great Southern Railway, Mr Tony Braxton-Smith.

“The 400 metre walkway winds alongside the railway towards the city centre through an attractive and informative exhibit of boards, art, shelters and seating set amongst native plants,” said Mr Vatskalis.

“The Discovery Walkway will provide Alice Springs visitors a chance to stretch their legs after their train journey amidst colourful and informative surroundings.

“The pathway has been lit by solar power which is a terrific step toward making the city more environmentally friendly in line with our Tourism Strategic Plan for environmental sustainability.”

The NT Government invested $330,000 towards the construction of the Discovery Walkway, in partnership with Great Southern Railway who managed the project and injected an additional $100,000 towards the walkway.
