Karl Hampton MINISTER FOR SPORT AND RECREATION |
Successful Masters Games
Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton has congratulated everyone involved in making the 12th Alice Springs Masters Games a very successful week of fun and games.
Over 4000 athletes ranging in age from a ‘young’ 26 through to a ‘youngish’ 97 years of age have participated in more 30 sports.
“Alice Springs residents look forward to the Masters held every two years and the 2008 Games have not disappointed, in fact many are calling them the best games ever,” Mr Hampton said.
“It was great to see so many locals and visitors alike having a great time and a special thanks must go to the more than 500 volunteers who give up their time to ensure the Games go off without a hitch.
“
Mr Hampton said the $1.8million contributed by the NT Government to the Masters Games was supported by generous corporate sponsorship
“There have been many highlights over the last six days including the participation of Olympic swimming legend Dawn Fraser who dived back into the pool to compete.
“I even managed to get on the field myself and I’m looking forward to 2010 where I hope to compete again.
“The Northern Territory Government is proud to support this fantastic event and I thank everyone who has ensured the 2008 Games were a success.”
