EnvironmeNT Grants totalling more than half a million dollars have been awarded to a variety of
“Since the EnvironmeNT Grants program began in 2004, the Northern Territory Government has provided more than $2 million to fund a diverse range of projects,” Ms Anderson said.
“This is the fifth year in which EnvironmeNT Grants have been made available to Territorians but this was the first year in which a new $100,000 wildlife category was introduced.
“Ark Animal Welfare Service was one of seven recipients within the new wildlife category, receiving an $8000 individual grant to build rehabilitation cages at the Living Skills Unit within Darwin Correctional Facility.
“Wildlife Rescue, Wildcare Alice Springs and Wildcare Inc. NT also received funding towards rescue and rehabilitation programs, sharing $46,086 in operational grants between them.”
Ms Anderson said the following organisations also received more than $300,000 worth of funding:
“Today’s announcement comes on top of the $28,600 provided to 14 Territory schools as part of the Northern Territory Government’s 2008 School EnvironmeNT Grants Program,” Ms Anderson said.
“Each one of this year’s EnvironmeNT Grants recipients is working hard to raise community awareness of environmental issues and encourage community action to better our environment.”
