New Netball Courts Well Under Way

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton said work on Darwin’s new 10-court netball complex is well under way with the pouring of the concrete today for the new ace rebound courts.

Mr Hampton said the new centre will allow netball to continue to grow and help to develop national and international level Territory players.

“Netball has one of the highest participation rates of any sport in the Territory, and the new 10 court-complex is an investment in the future of the game,” Mr Hampton said.

“The Northern Territory Government has committed $6.2 million to this top class sporting facility.

“I am committed to increasing opportunities for Territorians to compete in sport at all levels and providing first class facilities such as these new netball courts will bolster the popularity of the sport.

The new netball complex will include 10 competition-standard Rebound Ace courts, players’ change rooms and administration and spectator facilities.

Mr Hampton was joined on site today by Ms Helen Smith President of Netball NT.

Northern Territory Netball Association will lease the complex from the NT Government and Darwin Netball Centre will also be based at the complex.

The new Netball Centre is due to be completed by the end of January 2009, subject to weather conditions.
