NT Government Securing Three Year NBL Deal

The Northern Territory Government has secured elite level basketball games into the future with the announcement today of a three-year, $480,000 deal with the Perth Wildcats and Lynx.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Karl Hampton, said the Perth Wildcats were the Territory’s adopted team and he was pleased the relationship would continue into the future.

“National Basketball has become an important part of our great lifestyle over the last five years and an important event on the annual sporting calendar,” Mr Hampton said.

“Territory basketball fans have really thrown their support behind the NBL games with matches attracting capacity crowds.”

Mr Hampton said the deal had been extended to included Women’s National Basketball League Games with the Perth Lynx set to play regular fixtures in Darwin.

“Basketball fans outside Darwin will also have the chance to learn from these elite basketballers with

both the Wildcats and the Lynx committing to holding community clinics with young players.

“This promotes sport as an important part of a healthy lifestyle as well as assisting with the grass roots development of basketball.”

Tomorrow night will see the second WNBL match in Darwin with the Perth Lynx playing the Adelaide Lightning in Darwin following on from a successful WNBL match last year.

The Perth Wildcats will be up against the Melbourne Tigers at Marrara Indoor Stadium later this month.
