Territory superfish Tahnee Afuhaamango showed off her talents at the Parap Pool today ahead of her departure next week for the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation World Swimming Championships in
Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today presented Tahnee with a NT flag and called on Territorians to show their support for the Territory’s own world record holder.
“Tahnee has been training hard ahead of the Championship and I encourage Territorians to send her a herogram of support,” Mr Hampton said.
“Having broken 11 world records in the past three years Tahnee will proudly represent the Territory as part of the Australian team and it is important for Territorians to show her their support.
“Tahnee has spent many hours in the pool along with strength and conditioning sessions to be in peak condition for the Championships.
“She recently attended the Australian team training camp in Brisbane where the 20 swimmers selected for Portugal were put through some tough training sessions designed to give them the edge come the World Championships.”
Twenty six year old Tahnee who is a Development Scholarship holder with the Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) is a real medal chance at these her second world championships.
Tahnee’s selection in the Australian team was based on international performance and her achievements in holding world records.
