NBL Stars Arrive in Darwin

The Territory’s adopted NBL team the Perth Wildcats today arrived in Darwin ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against reigning NBL Champions the Melbourne Tigers.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton welcomed the team to Darwin and encouraged Territorians to get behind the Wildcats by attending the game at Marrara tomorrow night.

“It will be an exciting game of basketball with both teams looking for a much needed win,” Mr Hampton said.

Perth have the head to head advantage this season, having beaten Melbourne on their home court 105 to 101 in October.

“The Northern Territory Government is committed to bringing top level sport to the Territory and earlier this month agreed to a new $480 000 deal between the Perth Wildcats and Lynx.

“This deal secures elite basketball games in the Territory for a further three years.

“The Perth Wildcats have utilised the Territory as a home away from home each year since 2004 and it is fantastic that this will continue into the future.”

Young Territory basketball fans will have a chance to learn from these elite basket ball players with the Perth Wildcats conducting clinics with local children in both Darwin and at Belyuen community over the coming few days.

“It is important that young Territorians have the opportunity to meet these players so they can be inspired to achieve their own sporting dreams,” Mr Hampton said.

The Perth Wildcats enjoy travelling to
Darwin and appreciate the local support the club receives.

“We would like to thank all out sponsors in the Northern Territory that make it possible to host a NBL game in Darwin each season. Without the support of the NT Government, bringing elite basketball to the Territory would not be possible,” said Perth Wildcats Managing Director Andrew Vlahov.

The game starts at 7pm at Marrara Indoor Stadium tomorrow night. Tickets are still available from SkyCity Darwin.
