$1.32M for Sports Facility Upgrades

The Northern Territory Government is inviting sports organisations and clubs to apply for a Sports Facilities Grant to improve their organisation’s facilities.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton is encouraging sports organisations to apply for a Northern Territory Government Grant to improve existing or build new facilities.

“These grants are a great opportunity to help expand and grow your sport through improved facilities and I encourage all eligible clubs and organisations to apply,” Mr Hampton said.

“In this year’s budget, the Henderson Government increased funding for sporting facilities committing an additional $2 million over 2 years.

“There is $1.32 million available for sporting organisations facilities across the Territory.

“Grants will generally be made for up to $50 000 per organisation. However additional funding may be approved if deemed appropriate.

“The Facility Developments Grants program is designed to assist in improving the capacity of sport and recreation organisations to provide appropriate, affordable and accessible sport and recreation opportunities through facility improvement.

“Good facilities benefit all levels of sport from our grass roots clubs and juniors through to our elite sports stars.

“The Northern Territory Government is delivering real results for Territorians in the sporting arena with facility upgrades.

In the 2008-09 funding round $820 566 was allocated to 18 sport and recreation organisations to improve their facilities.

Facility Development Grants are offered once each financial year and are facilitated through the Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport.  Incorporated Sports Clubs and Local Government organisations are able to apply.

Applications for the Sport and Recreation Facility Development Grants close on Friday 27 February 2009 and application forms and guidelines are available from www.sportandrecreation.nt.gov.au
