Traeger Park on Track for More Top Class Sport

The Northern Territory Government has welcomed the announcement from the Australian Football League that there will be a pre-season match on February 27th at Traeger Park.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today said Territorians love their footy and it would be great to once again see first class AFL action in Central Australia.

“The NT Government has invested over $5.5 million upgrading Traeger Park and it is a fantastic facility for the people of Alice Springs,” Mr Hampton said.

“It is exciting to hear which teams are short-listed teams to play in the Alice Springs pre-season game.

“The match will be the losing teams from the West Coast v Collingwood match and the Geelong v Adelaide match.

“It would be great if it was Collingwood, my personal preference of course, but whatever teams come in February it will be a great game,” Mr Hampton said.

“I know the match will be fully supported and enjoyed by Central Australians.”

In another positive step forward for the Traeger Park, the Alice Springs Town Council has accepted ownership of the multi million dollar sporting facility.

“It is pleasing that council has taken responsibility for this great sporting venue,” Mr Hampton said.

“We have resolved all of the Council’s issues around their taking ownership of the grandstand and the Mayor has signed off on that, which is a positive step.
