Karl Hampton MINISTER FOR SPORT AND RECREATION |
Nominations are now open for the Territory’s peak sporting organisations to apply for a 2009-13 Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) squad program.
Minister for Sport and Recreation
“The NTIS is the Territory Government’s centre of sporting excellence for the identification, development and support of the Territory’s talented athletes and coaches,” said Mr Hampton.
“The NTIS provides strong leadership, professional coaching, leading-edge sports science and sports medicine services in an environment that optimises opportunities for Territory athletes to achieve at the highest levels in sport, and life.
“The NTIS sport framework outlines the services and support provided to Territory athletes over a four year life span, with the current framework expiring at the end of this financial year, 2008/2009.
“A new sport framework for 2009/10 – 2012/13 has been developed and sports are invited to apply to have a NTIS squad scholarship program for this period.
“There are a number of criteria that sports must meet to be eligible to become a squad program member including having a high quality coaching structure in place, National Sporting Organisation backing and adequate administration support.
“NTIS Scholarships, for Individual or Squad athletes, are an investment in the Territory’s sporting future.”
Category acceptance will be determined by the NTIS depending on assessment against the selection criteria. Applications close 30 January 2009.
