Karl Hampton MINISTER FOR SPORT AND RECREATION |
Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today inspected the new home of the Arafura Games at Marrara.
For the first time, the Arafura Games Management Centre will be housed within the Marrara precinct at the Italian Sports and Social Club.
“With less than 100 days to the start of the 2009 Arafura Games the opening of this centre is an important step to a successful event,” Mr Hampton said.
“Operations, VIP services, the Media Centre and Workforce services are just some of the areas that will be working from Italian House during the Games.
“During the Games the total workforce grows to approximately 1100 people and this operations centre on site will be a great benefit.
“It is fantastic to see already over 400 people have registered to volunteer their skills and time for the Games.
“I encourage Territorians who are thinking about helping with the games to register at www.arafuragames.nt.gov.au now.
“The 2009 Arafura Games has an exciting line up of events across 27 sporting disciplines and eight Paralympic sports and volunteering is a great way to be a part of the action.”
The 2009 Games start on Saturday 9 May and go through until Saturday 17 May.
