Supporting NTIS Athlete Going To 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games

A Territory-based athlete competing in this month’s 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne will receive financial support from the Government.

Sport and Recreation Minister, Delia Lawrie, said NTIS athlete Crystal Attenborough (Athletics /

Sprinting) will receive $4,000 to assist towards the cost of her trip.

Crystal is a fine young athlete who is representing the Territory – and Australia – at one of the highest levels, and we’re proud to support her,” said Ms Lawrie.

“She is Territory-based and part of the Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) training program.

“Like all the other athletes competing in the Games, Crystal has worked long and hard to reach the elite level and we wish her well.”

Ms Lawrie said Territorians will also get behind the three other athletes who have links with the

Territory.

“When competition gets underway in two weeks we’ll all be glued to our televisions, cheering on Crystal, as well as Danni Miatke (swimming), Alexis Rhodes (road cycling) and Chris Jongewaard (mountain bike riding),” said Ms Lawrie.
