NRL Games for the Territory

The NT Government has called for expressions of interest from National Rugby League clubs to secure continued NRL games in the Territory.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today announced that a formal invitation had been sent to the National Rugby League with the aim of establishing formal and ongoing links to deliver NRL games here in the Territory.

“A number of clubs have already expressed an interest in playing in the Territory and this formalises the process, Mr Hampton said.

“Territorians love their sport and the NT Government is committed to supporting initiatives that secure top class sport events for the Territory.

“We have seen a high level of interest from NRL clubs in establishing a supporter base here in the NT with the visits over the past couple of years from the Cowboys, Titans and Sharks.

“Our aim is to secure NRL premiership and pre season matches here in the Territory.

“There would also be a requirement that teams run community engagement events such as school and junior community clinics.

“Hosting elite level sporting fixtures enables Territorians to see their sporting heroes live in action.

“Territorians love their Rugby League and the NT Government is working hard to secure an ongoing deal to see top class rugby leagues games here in the Territory.
