Plan for Alice Springs Growth

Planning Minister Delia Lawrie today released the Alice Springs Planning for the Future Forum Action Plan, and announced an Alice Springs Steering Committee to ensure its implementation.

“This Action Plan will provide for future growth at AZRI and revitalise the CBD,” Ms Lawrie said.

The Minister for Central Australia, Karl Hampton, and Alice Springs Mayor Damian Ryan will co-chair the Steering Committee that will oversight the planning actions.

Other committee members are Julie Ross, Brendan Meaney, Darryl Pearce, David Forrest, Fran Kilgariff and Tony Renshaw.

The five key actions to guide planning for the future growth of Alice Springs are:

“We listened to Alice Springs planning forum participants who determined AZRI should be the next site for residential development after Mt Johns Valley,” Ms Lawrie said.

“I thank the Alice Springs Mayor for working with the Territory Government, through the Forum and now Steering Committee, to deliver exciting new planning directions for Alice Springs.”

Minister for Central Australia Karl Hampton welcomed the release of the Action Plan and said he was committed to ensuring the availability of more urban planning options, from residential to commercial and industrial.

“Our community wants action to provide growth and revitalisation – with a local Steering Committee we will ensure this Action Plan delivers contemporary planning and land release.”
