“It is fantastic to see that all of the current sports are continuing and with the introduction of four new squads, bringing a total of 13 sports, we will be able to offer more opportunities to Territory athletes,” said Mr Hampton.
“We will see football and yachting as a part of the NTIS program for the first time along with the reintroduction of swimming and athletics.
“The current sports of AFL, cricket, cycling, hockey, netball, rugby league, rugby union, tennis and tenpin bowling will all continue in the squad program.”
Mr Hampton said
“NTIS squad scholarship programs have been awarded to sports with a strong record of NT athletes performing on the national stage, along with their capability of contributing to and supporting a high performance sport program.
“Professional coaching, sports science and sports medicine services are provided to all NTIS athletes.”
The NTIS is also calling for individual athletes to apply to be a part of the Institute.

“Scholarship benefits include the use of NTIS facilities and support services in areas including sports psychology, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy and biomechanics.
“Scholarship holders also have access to financial assistance and assistance through the national Athlete Career Education program.”
Well known NTIS Scholarship holders who have achieved great success include Olympian Des Abbott, Paralympian Melanie Hall and Bo de la Cruz.
