Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today announced $550,000 in Budget 2009 for a new public address system at Darwin’s TIO Stadium.

 

“TIO Stadium hosts many national and international sporting events and is the home of AFL in the Territory,” Mr Hampton said.

 

”This upgrade will further improve the overall experience for Territory sports fans.

 

“Budget 2009 provides for the enhancement of the Territory lifestyle through additional funds to upgrade parks and further develop our sporting facilities.

 

“These sound system upgrades will ensure more speakers providing clearer speech reproduction so that crowds will be able to hear more of the commentary.

 

“At times the current system cannot produce sufficient sound pressure levels to overcome the noise from spectators and this will be eliminated by the new state of the art system.

 

“TIO Stadium has hosted events such as AFL games, One Day International Cricket matches, the Crusty Demons motor show and rock super star Elton John.

 

“It is important we maintain the high standard of our sporting venues as we continue to attract first class sports and entertainment events to the Territory.

 

“The biennial Arafura Games will also benefit from this upgrade with a number of events including the opening ceremony being held at TIO Stadium.

 

“The tender process will begin as soon as possible with the new sound system in place by next year.”
