Alice Springs will receive a boost in accommodation services with the Territory Government announcing that Anglicare will deliver supported accommodation services at a Government owned property.

 

Minister for Housing Rob Knight today made the announcement saying approval has been granted for Anglicare to manage 107 Bloomfield Street.

 

“The Henderson Government understands that short term accommodation is an important issue for Alice Springs,” Mr Knight said.

 

“That’s why we are working closely with non-government organisations to help expand their services and facilities in the town.”

 

Anglicare will use the 27 unit facility to provide short to long term accommodation and life skills programs to deliver real results for people at risk of homelessness.

 

The units will be transferred to Anglicare as they become available.

 

“The Territory Government will invest $185 000 to upgrade the eight units currently vacant so Anglicare can move in as soon as possible,” Mr Knight said.

 

“It is expected that clients from The Lodge may be among the fist to move in at the end of the month.

 

“The Territory Government is committed to working with the housing support sector to boost short term accommodation services across the NT.”
