Australia’s Best Riders in Alice

Alice Springs this week hosts Australia’s best Mountain bike riders with the Anaconda MTB Enduro event being staged in and around the town.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today welcomed athletes and visitors to Central Australia for the event while watching the stage race up Anzac Hill.

“It is fantastic to see this race return to Alice Springs after the success of last year’s inaugural event.

“The Northern Territory Government has provided a community support grant of $25 000 towards the event.

“Events like this are important to the local community with athletes and visitors providing a boost to the local economy.

“Competitors will participate across seven stages over five days, ranging from the 45 second Anzac Hill sprint to a 90km road race.

“Over two hundred and fifty athletes from all around Australia will join competitors from New Zealand and Singapore in a bid to win the Enduro tittle.

“In the men’s field we have ten of the top 20 riders in Australia competing, while the women’s event is lead by Australia number two ranked rider Jodie Willet.

“The natural terrain and landscape in and around Alice Springs is well suited to the sport of mountain biking.

“I encourage local residents to get down and watch some of the mountain biking action this week.”
