NT Sport’s Future Direction Taking Shape

The first community forum to discuss the future direction of sport and active recreation in the Territory will be held in Darwin this evening.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton is encouraging all Territorians to join in and have their say.

“This first ever Sport and Recreation policy will have an impact on how sports activities are run in the future, therefore input from stakeholders and community members is essential,” said Mr Hampton.

“The community forums held during May and June will allow Territorians to have their say and be part of the Territory’s sporting future.

“An issues paper ‘Towards a Sport and Active Recreation Policy’ has been released for public comment.

“This policy will provide a framework for future planning, identifying priorities for the community and provide the basis for the NT Government’s strategic direction in sport and recreation.

“It is important that the Sport and Active Recreation Policy becomes a community document and reflects the values and aspirations of Territorians.

“The policy will maximise government investment in sport and active recreation programs and facilities, as well as align with other priorities such as improving physical health and wellbeing.”

The community forums will be taking place on the following dates and locations members of the public are strongly encouraged to attend:
