Alice Springs Aquatic Centre Moves A Step Closer

The Alice Springs Aquatic Centre has moved a step closer with the Territory Government funded scoping study complete and the project now ready to enter the design and construction stage.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Kon Vatskalis said the Territory Government has delivered $8.1m to fund the new Aquatic Centre in Alice Springs.

“The new Aquatic Centre will be a first class facility catering for the casual swimmer, serious racers and those people who just want a relaxing day with the family,” Minister Vatskalis said.

“The new Aquatic Centre will be a great boost to the 2008 Masters Games and we’re looking forward to the Alice Springs Town Council completing the construction works in time.

“$8.1m is the largest funding investment for an aquatic centre ever made by a Northern Territory

Government to a local council.

“The Territory Government has listened to Alice Springs residents and responded with a record $8.1m for a first class facility.

“This is on top of the $5m we have already invested in upgrading Traeger Park, the new start / finish line for the Finke desert race and the Larapinta Trail.

“$8.1m will buy a 25m indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, and children’s aqua play water park.

“That’s a sensational result - soon people in Alice will be able to go for a swim all year round no matter how cold it gets, families will have a great new place to play and the hydro therapy pool will be welcomed by senior citizens.

Alice is a great place to live, and soon it’s going to be even better.”
