Territorians on International Sporting Stage

The Northern Territory Government has assisted two Territory athletes realise their dream of representing Australia on the International sporting stage.

 

Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton today announced financial support through the Special Assistance Grant Program to Sarah Paul and Monica Stewart.

 

“I congratulate Sarah and Monica on being selected to represent Australia in their chosen sports,” Mr Hampton said.

 

“The opportunity to compete at the international level will be a fantastic experience.

 

“Sarah who is an NTIS scholarship holder will travel to Singapore and the United Kingdom later this month as part of the Under 16 School Sport Australia Girl’s Hockey Team.

 

“The Territory has a proud history of national and international hockey players and I am sure Sarah will represent the Territory and Australia with pride.”

Sarah who has been playing hockey since 2003 and has represented the Territory numerous times was selected in the Australian team after her efforts at the 2008 Pacific School Games.

Territory Triathlete Monica Stewart will also wear the green and gold for Australia later this year when she competes in the International Triathlon Union Triathlon World Championships.

 

Ms Stewart was selected to compete at the World Championships which will be held on the Gold Coast in September after a number of recent top performances.

 

She finished second in the age team qualifiers in Western Australia and Queensland (age 55 to 59 group) and fourth at the age team qualifier in South Australia (age 55 to 59 group) to make the team.

”I congratulate Monica on the commitment she has had to make to achieve this remarkable goal in representing the Territory, and her country,” Mr Hampton said.
