Upgrade of Bagot Road and Stuart Highway Intersection Begins

A $750,000 project that will create 30 Territory jobs and improve the Bagot Road, Snell Street and Stuart Highway intersection has started.

Infrastructure Minister Delia Lawrie today congratulated local company DAC Enterprises for being awarded the $750,000 contract that will deliver 30 jobs directly and for sub-contractors.

“Thousands of Territorians drive along Bagot Road each week and this project will reduce traffic congestion and make it safer for motorists and pedestrians to use,” Ms Lawrie said.

“Key features of the $750,000 project include the delivery of improved turning lanes along Bagot Road and Snell Street, new pedestrian pathways and improved pedestrian crossing facilities at the busy intersection, with work set for completion in five weeks.”

Ms Lawrie said the $750,000 project is one of several that are currently underway or have been recently completed to improve and upgrade Bagot Road.

“Darwin contractor Asphalt Company Australia Pty Ltd recently resealed 1.25km of the inbound lanes of Bagot Road between Fitzer Drive and Nemarluk Drive as part of our Urban Arterials Pavement Strengthening and Widening Program at a cost of $600 000,” Ms Lawrie said.

“In addition, BMD Group is currently undertaking drainage works along Bagot Road at a cost of $687,000, with work to be completed in June.

“These drainage works to reduce potholes will deliver a replacement of about 340 metres of stormwater drainage pipe located under Bagot Road due to the ongoing occurrence of cavities forming around the pipe beneath the pavement.”

“A $333,000 contract awarded to local company Norblast Industrial Solutions to maintain the bridge rails and the crash barrier along the Bagot Road flyover is currently underway, with work set for completion in July.

“We will continue to improve and upgrade our roads with Budget 09 delivering a record $322 million roads budget next financial year as part of an unprecedented $1.3 billion infrastructure spend.”
