The Territory Government is supporting the NT’s first Animal Awareness Week - set to begin tomorrow.
Minister for Local Government Mr Rob Knight said most events are free of charge and are a great way to keep the children busy during the school holiday.
“Animal Awareness Week will focus on protecting and caring for our pets as well as the Territory’s wildlife,” Mr Knight said.
“Here in the Territory we have a high rate of pet ownership and we all have a role to play in caring for animals.
“This week gives us all a great opportunity to learn out more about caring for pets and wildlife.”
Organised by the Animal Welfare Branch of the Department of Local Government, the week will feature a range of events, activities and competitions to help Territorians better understand our pets and wildlife, including:
· A launch at Crocosaurus Cove on Monday, followed by a reptile talk later that afternoon
· Reptile demonstrations at Palmerston and Casuarina Shopping Centres
· Demonstrations at
· A lunch time talk with Dr Stephen Cutter
· An RSPCA open day
“Learning positive, caring behaviour towards all animals is important for young people as they will carry these skills throughout their life,” Mr Knight said.
Children can also enter their pet in the Pamper Your Pet competition by sharing why your pet is important to you. All entries go into the running win a pet pamper pack valued at $150.
