Darwin and Palmerston residents will benefit from $1.5 million worth of new cycle paths to be built this Dry Season, Infrastructure Minister Delia Lawrie announced today.
“Territorians love the great outdoors and the Henderson Government is spending $1.5 million to improve cycle paths in Darwin and Palmerston this Dry Season,” Ms Lawrie said.
“This includes work that started yesterday on a new $185,000 cycle path under the
“Local company CS Services NT will spend the next six weeks building the new 400m cycle path that links Mirambeena Street on one side of Daly St to Harvey Street on the other - supporting five direct jobs in the process – with tenders for lighting and landscaping to be called later this year.
“Work is also well underway on a new 1.2 kilometre cycle path along
“Local company Vrahos Constructions Pty Ltd began working on the project a fortnight ago with about five jobs supported during the life of the $361,000 project.
“The Henderson Government is committed to improving the Territory’s network of bike paths and that’s why we are spending $1.5 million on new paths in addition to $200,000 for minor new works each year on existing paths.
“We will also be reviewing the existing network of cycle paths during 2009 and this will include local government involvement towards formulating a 10-year plan to improve cycle paths.”
Other upcoming tenders to build new cycle paths include:
· A new cycle path along
· A new cycle path along Roystonea Avenue from University Avenue to Buscall Avenue that will link Palmerston centre to Farrar, Bakewell, Gunn and the new suburb of Johnston.
A $4 million tender to duplicate
