Masters Games Boosts Business And Supports Local Sport
The 2006 Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG) kicks off on Saturday and with 4,457 registered competitors, will be just shy of the record number of competitors at the last Games.

“The Games are much more than just a sporting extravaganza, they provide a boost to business with an estimated $9m injected into the local economy,” Minister Vatskalis said.
“Local sporting group are also winners, receiving over $244 000 Masters Games Sport levies.
“The dollars are spent by sports to update venues, facilities and equipment which not only benefits the Games, but also local sporting groups all year round.”
The Games Sport levies are collected when registrations are accepted and paid in full to the sports with the purpose of running the sport for the ASMG.
“The Alice Springs Masters Games has come a long way since the first Games were held in 1986 and attracted 1000 competitors,” Minister Vatskalis said.
“The Martin Government is proud to support the Games in its 20th year and I look forward to another week of sporting action and achievement.”
