A Win for Territory Soccer

In a major win for Territory soccer the Bagot Ovals will receive a $640,000 upgrade.

Chief Minister Paul Henderson said the Territory Government will provide $190,000 for improvements to the council-owned sporting facility.

“We’re happy to help council upgrade these ovals which play such an important part in Darwin’s junior soccer development,” he said.

“More than 4000 Territorians play soccer – and 1700 of them are junior players – we must nurture the future of the sport,” he said.

“I’m a regular at the Bagot Ovals to watch my kids play on Saturdays and Sundays – it’s a great community atmosphere.

“I’m sure parents around Darwin will welcome this investment at these great grounds.”

The upgrade will include:

·        New subgrade and turf for ovals

·        Excavation works

·        New irrigation system

Darwin Lord Mayor Graeme Sawyer welcomed the funding which will allow Council to go ahead with the upgrades.

“This is a new era of co-operation between the NT Government and Council - and the winners are the hundreds of young soccer players,” he said.

“Sporting activities are so important for our young people, which is why we must keep our facilities in good shape.”
