Rob Knight MINISTER FOR HOUSING |
Sixteen refurbished units on
Minister for Housing Rob Knight said the Henderson Government is committed to helping more Territorians buy their own home, and the redevelopment of the former Territory Housing Complex will provide a boost to the housing market.
“The $1.2 million redevelopment provides a great opportunity for low to middle income earning Territorians to enter the housing market at an affordable price,” Mr Knight said.
“The units have received major kitchen renovations, roof repairs and upgraded solar hot water systems. Security fencing has been upgraded along with shade sails, painting and landscaping.
“Territorians will be able to view the renovated units when they open for inspection from July 18.”
The Henderson Government is committed to getting more homes on the market, giving Territorians more options and making housing more affordable.
Mr Knight said the HOMESTART NT scheme is also giving Territorians an alternative option to enter the market.
“Since the scheme began just five-weeks ago, we’ve had 174 enquiries about the scheme and 119 application packs have been sent out,” Mr knight said.
“That’s seen 32 applications made for a loan, four have already been approved and 10 more have been given in-principle approval.
“We know some families are finding it tough to get into the market – this gives Territorians another option,” Mr Knight said.

A short list of 32 people will be drawn plus additional reserves. These people will then be invited to stage two – a public ballot, which will see names drawn at random with the first person offered their preferred unit and so on.
The process is expected to be complete and contracts settled by October.
The funds raised from the sale of this complex will be reinvested into Territory Housing construction projects.
