$5m Alice Springs CBD Revitalisation Unveiled

The Minister for Planning and Lands, Delia Lawrie, and the Minister for Central Australia, Karl Hampton, today announced details of the $5 million revitalisation of the Alice Springs Central Business District.

The project is delivering on a Henderson Government commitment to upgrade the Alice Springs CBD.

The proposals were developed by the Alice Springs Planning for the Future Forum and are part of its Action Plan which was announced in March this year.

Mr Hampton, and Alice Springs Mayor, Damien Ryan, are co-chairing the steering committee that is overseeing the implementation of the Action Plan.

Ms Lawrie said the CBD revitalisation included four proposed new projects which will put on public display in the coming months.

Alice Springs is a thriving and growing town that has a unique cultural heritage,” Ms Lawrie said.

“The proposed revitalisation of the town’s CBD will dramatically enhance the Alice Springs town centre and will ensure it continues to be a vibrant centre in the future.”

The plans include four proposed projects:

“Indigenous groups and leaders will be invited to make their contributions to the proposed Leichhardt Terrace project that will highlight the region’s strong links to Indigenous culture and heritage,” Ms Lawrie said.

Mr Hampton said the upgrade would provide a welcoming town centre for businesses, residents and visitors.

“The revitalisation will improve the facilities and amenities for residents as well as for the many tourists that visit Alice Springs each year,” Mr Hampton said.
